| Torrey weeps for joy upon receiving her prosthetic
device from Limbs of Love. |
Instead of the standard cards and candy this Valentine's Day, Limbs of Love in Houston, Texas, donated over $100,000 worth of prosthetic devices to three amputees: a teenage beauty pageant winner, a beautiful 17-year-old girl that lost her leg to cancer, and a grandmother seeking custody of her grandchildren.
When Limbs of Love was founded in 2006," stated founder Joe Sansone, "It was our hope to donate our first limb on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately we just didn't have the resources to make this happen. But I never dreamed that on this date, two years later, we would be delivering over $100,000 worth of limbs to these three special ladies."
The tears in Teresa Torrey's eyes, one of the three recipients today, said it all when she received her prosthetic leg and took her first step after not walking for over a year. Teresa's desire for a prosthetic device seemed a little more compelling than most. She has grandchildren in foster care and CPS had told her it was unlikely she could obtain custody of her young grandchildren, ages one and two, if she was non-ambulatory with just one leg. But undaunted Theresa found Limbs of Love and received her new limb today.
I have two legs again," says Torrey, "and now I have a better chance of having my grandchildren safe at home. They can't tell me I can't keep up with my grandkids now!"

| Limbs of Love recipient Sunny Chism speaks with media after receiving her limb from Limbs of Love and ARTech. |
"Unfortunately," says Sansone, "many amputees are shocked when they
discover that their insurance company doesn't pay for artificial limbs. Imagine the shock when hard working contributing members of society discover that even though they have been paying their ever increasing health insurance premiums, they have no coverage for prosthetic devices."
That's what happened to another Limbs of Love recipient who received an $80,000 limb today. 17-year-old Amanda McDaniel lost her leg to
Osteogenic Sarcoma and found out that her insurance covered only $2,500 of the $80,000 limb. Limbs of love has given the 17-year-old cheerleader and soccer player a new lease on life.
Sunny Chism has been participated in beauty pageants with just one arm, but today ARTech and Limbs of Love donated a prosthetic arm that was so lifelike, Sunny was stunned as she scratched her other arm for the first time in years. Something we take for granted, put a smile on the beauty queen's face.
About Limbs of Love
We are a charitable organization whose mission is to provide limbs to those patients that have lost a limb but do not have the resources to pay for the expensive prosthetic devices.
