More than 50 Amputees Skydive Over Houston
Hundreds of people gathered on March 28, 2009, to watch more than 50 amputees, including 15 Wounded Warriors, skydive over Houston. The second annual event, hosted by Limbs of Love, was an effort to raise awareness of prosthetic parity legislation. This was the largest group of amputee skydivers in history.
Dana Bowman, the U.S. Army paratrooper who lost both his legs in a skydiving accident, skydived into the event and afterward gave a motivational speech. The veterans were escorted by the Brazoria County Calvary.
The 15 amputee Wounded Warriors lost their limbs while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. These amputees jumped as a symbol of hope for amputees across the world. In addition, Limbs of Love urged Congress to pass the Prosthetic Parity Act, a bill requiring insurance companies to provide coverage for artificial limbs on par with Medicare.
No funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is used to support ACA advocacy efforts.
